Speaking of pictures…
There’s a really great exhibit up at the library of congress’ website now about a early 20th century photographer that perfected a method of doing color photographs long before color photography was even ‘invented’.
So, how weird is it that we’re looking at color photos that were taken 100 years ago on computers that are connected through a vast global network that wasn’t even a glimmer in the eyes of anyone whose photos were taken.
I remember reading that we seperate history in our eyes between the time when color photos were first taken and before when all we had was black and white photography. I find it especially entrancing that we can see color photos from 100 years ago…
Extremely cool. The guy basically invented dye-transfer printing, which is still the standard for rich print color. What strikes me is the artistic merit of the pictures themselves. Many of them could be framed in a public place and would gather people standing and looking at them for long periods.
