So, I have an opportunity to embrace the world of academia.
My friend, Jon, and I are applying for a grant from the MacArthur foundation for a digital learning initiative. Pray that we get it.
It was fun though writing the main proposal last night. I had a similar feeling to Tom Cruise’s character Jerry McGuire in the opening scene of Jerry McGuire when he wrote his paper. It was great to think about an idea and just have it sing and feel like I really had a finger on who God created me to be.
I really hope we get it; it would be great fun to do and would enable a couple of really great things to happen.
In a nutshell, we’ll be doing a formal study on the efectivness of facebook as a classroom management solution. There’s alot of goals I have with this study and alot of postive thigns I want to see happen. It’s a stretch thinking about it. The last formal study I took part in was my thesis a number of years ago and I really enjoyed that and it was a postive experience.
I was almost not going to attempt writing it, but IV had their fall conference last weekend that I helped get setup and York Moore spoke on Friday night on the importance of Christians in Academia and the salt and light we can be in that context. I really was challenged to just do it; to write the grant because that was what God was calling me to do at this particular moment.
So, we’ll see how it goes.
It sure will look nice on a resume too. But I’m optimistic to where if we don’t get it, there will be other opportunities. We just have to find them and figure what can be learned from this one.
How cool!
TulipGirl – Hey thanks for stopping by eh
. Yeah, had a fun moment this evening relating the event to a friend. The pastor at our church often talks about passions and doing things that God gifted/called you to do and I was listing off all the different worlds where this collided in and it was a good moment to see a glimpse of how God created me.
