One more U2 tidbit.
0Here it is; get it while it’s there. This is the fabled, never seen video to ‘Red Hill Mining Town’ that, no pun intended, never saw the light of day (and for good reasons when you see it). I’m a little dissapointed because the video is much different than the one I had in my head for this song (and great song it is!).
Wave of Sorrow
0For all you U2 fans out there, ‘The Joshua Tree’ is 20 years old this year (man I feel old), and to celebrate the band is releasing a special edition that also has a disc of outtakes and b-sides. A number of the b-sides exist out in the wild, but one of the new ones is called ‘Wave of Sorrow’ and is a song written after Bono and his wife visited Ethiopia in the 80′s during their famine. He was, reportedly, so impacted by that trip that it spawned his work with Africa. He also wrote this song. You can hear him sing it and talk about it here: http://www.u2.com/news/index.php?mode=full&news_id=2166.
…and it’s there!

To all of our shock, we were greated this morning with this information. This is the tracking page for our package and we found out that our 2.9 pounds of paper made it all the way to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 5 days! We had heard that often these types of packages will bounce around Europe for a while before coming to rest in Africa. Needless to say we were surprised that it arrived so quickly. The next step is for AWAA’s represenative in Ethiopia to come pick it up at their office and deliver it to the necessary people; it’s a bit less expensive for him to pick it up than for it to be delivered directly to him. It’s at that point, we begin our wait. We’re currently 25th in line in our agency for a referral and referrals have been coming at a rate of 6 to 12 a month. There are several other factors, of course, but it appears as though we’re in the home stretch.
With that said, there are a number of you who have asked about contributing to the adoption. We’ll be sending out letters to the people we have addresses for in snail mail (and e-mail in one case) with more information if you want to contribute. If you’d like to be on that list and you’ve not contacted me yet, please let me know; we’d appreciate your being a part of the community brining ______ (we have her name, but it’s a secret!
) home. Just e-mail/facebook/whatever me and I can can get you that information.
